Getting out of the Bubble - Part 3- China Town SFO!

This SF trip proved to be the best of them all! The sights, the smell, the sounds everything reminded me so much of India. Tiny stores with their colorful wares spilling onto the sidewalk, the numerous bakeries to stop and munch at when your feet get tired and throngs of people, some milling around like me but most driven by their daily pursuits. The constant Cantonese chatter, the permeating smells of BBQ, fish and spices, the bright red lanterns - its interesting to say the least!

The Lion Gate- entrance to Chinatown

I'm told the Chinatown in SF is the largest Chinatown outside of Asia, I haven't been to any other so I'm happy to believe that. Some highlights of our trip:

  1. Dim Sums @ Delicious Dim Sum, 752 Jackson Street,
  2. Lunch @ Far East Cafe- good food and ambiance- beautiful chandeliers and private booths. Loved dining in the private booth!
  3. The Fortune Cookie Factory- someone said on a blog-"Your nose will lead you to it" and it did!
  4. Chinatown trinkets, how can you come away without some of those? Make sure to not buy them at the first store you see, keep walking and you'll come across the less touristy ones inside Chinatown.
  5. Stockton street markets between Jackson and Pacific- a sensory treat!
  6. Temples that we'd have loved to explore but didn't get a chance.

Very festive!
